Welcome to Owen Brown Racing
Introduction Owen
Brown has a passion for
motorsport and has a long history of experience not only in racing but with
motor vehicles in general. Along with his team of trained engineers this
experience has been put to good use within his own business.
Owen's Racing background Owen
Brown Motorsport
has been running for 14 years,
essentially supporting the racing career of Owen Brown himself but on a number
of occasions taking other drivers under their wing & offering help &
sponsorship to them, most notably, in 2003 Stevie Davies(7), who won the
Supastox points championship, & more recently in 2004 Dave Sayell (123) who
runs in the UK modified class & is without doubt one of the up & coming
talents, who will, I am sure, one day have as much success as his very talented
Dad did in the Grand prix midget formula. Racing
started in the deep end with B.R.I.S.C.A. Formula 1 stock cars, which I was
quite late joining at 29 years old. I had spent my younger days spectating at
tracks all over the country, but living in Loughborough, Leicester & Long
Eaton were the regular haunts. Loughborough
over the years has been a good breeding ground for stock car drivers, &
still is with the likes of my good friend Tony Smith racing F1 today, but a few
years ago my interest soon lead me towards a family who were, & are still
are, stock car mad, The Davies family (John aka Wally, Trev, Rocky, Terry, all
drivers at some point). So
in 1989 Trevor & I bought a Clive Lintern chassis from Jayne Bean(309) and
set about putting together our first stock car . We bought a complete, but
damaged Wilf Warnes (91) chassis from Nigel Evison (93), for the engine, a chevy
454, but in the end repaired this car & it became our first car. This was
revamped for the 1991 season & it wasn’t until 1992 that we eventually put
the Lintern chassis on track. This
car gave us our first success with the Charlie Finnikin trophy at Long Eaton
& the next year a final win at F1
is without doubt the formula to race in but it is at a cost, not just monetary
but mainly time. The early nineties meant most nights in the garage till 10 o
clock preparing & often racing twice in a weekend, I eventually realised
that it was too much to keep up with & went into retirement until a race in
the veterans race at Coventry in Chris Brocksopps F1 against the likes of Stuart
Smith & Glyn Pursey & all of a sudden the bug bit me again. By
this time I was living in Peterborough & didn’t want to get too committed
a conversation with Murray Harrison( 97) presented the possibility of an
occasional hired ride in an F1 which was a brilliant offer from one of the best
drivers, but a one off trip to the now defunct track at Alwalton in Peterborough
gave me an opportunity to race every meeting but only every fortnight in the
supastox class. I
bought an ex Tony Lampard F2 & started racing again at Alwalton in 2001
& a sixth place in the points & a podium place in The East of England
championship was enough incentive to go for it in 2002, which gave us the
Supastox points championship, The East of England Championship 1st
& 2nd (Trev Davies (77) taking second) and the British title. 2003
got even better, Stevie Davies winning the Supastox points championship, myself
winning the 2004
has given us more success Alwalton has now closed so a lot more travelling has
to be done to places as far a field as Ringwood near Bournemouth, Fleet in
Aldershot & Arena Essex near Thurrock, but the UK modified British, points
& world title have all been retained & things are looking good for 2005
with possible meetings at Northampton International, Birmingham & Buxton as
well as Arena, Fleet, & Ringwood.
